Hi! I’m Alicia and I run the blog BirdHouse Diaries.

I’m a weird combination of graduate from both Business School and Culinary School as a Pastry Chef; kind of like being a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. Your guess as to which is which.

My original pipe dream was to eventually open my own high-end artisan patisserie/bakery café somewhere in the heart of the busy, bustling city in which I was born and raised, though I was very aware the likelihood of having a successful business in one of the least forgiving markets in Canada was a high risk. Then, life or fate got in the way and decided that it was time to move out of my beloved big city to a smaller, relatively slower-paced locale…and to my surprise I completely fell in love with my new home. It was an adjustment, but the older I get, the more I realize I wasn’t meant to stay in my hometown.

So, I’ve changed my life goals to something more attainable; I work a regular job during the day that pays the bills, and save my creativity and passion for baking and cooking for my evenings and weekends. I bake on commission when I have the chance, but mostly do it for for friends and family, not to mention the enjoyment I get developing my own twists on recipes and posting about them here.

I also have lots of hobbies and interests to keep my mind active, and some very close friends and loving family who keep my funny bone active too!  I hope you enjoy my odd little blog which over the months and years is expected to become filled with recipes, tutorials, interesting thoughts and ponderings from my weird little mind, not to mention lots of pictures.
